My Unique ApproachI believe we are more then our stories and that change and growth is always a possibility. My client centered, holistic approach to therapy allows for a deeper exploration of how our past experiences may be influencing our current day reality. By understanding where our thoughts, beliefs, behaviors and defenses originate we can then make the choice to continue or change.
Talk Therapy
Having a safe space to share your story can be very helpful all on it’s own. Often people have never shared certain aspects of themselves or have never been able to say certain things out loud. Having your experiences witnessed and validated by another can be very healing. It's a way to not feel so alone in our pain.
Intuitive Energy HealingWe have 7 layers of energy that make up our field with the physical body being the densest and therefore most visible to the eye. If we are only ever dealing with physical aspects, we are only treating 1/7th of the issue. Incorporating energy work into your care plan takes your healing to greater depths and lasting transformation. Our bodies have an amazing ability to store memories and experiences within our cells. Often people fall back into unhealthy patterns because the energy has not been released from our cellular memory and we simply recreate what we know. This theory applies to trauma, physical injury, chronic pain and family imprints to name a few. Through the use of appropriate touch we release the energetic blocks allowing our body to find it’s natural balance and activate the healing systems of our own wise bodies.
Meditation, Mindfulness, and Nervous System RegulationThe antidote to stress and anxiety is to experience calm and relaxation. Easier said than done!
Stress triggers an automatic fear response ( fight, flight or freeze) in our bodies left over from times where we needed to be alert of the danger the saber tooth tiger threatened. In today’s society we don’t have those same survival issues as our ancestors did, however we do have a bombardment of the senses through busy lives, blue screens, over scheduling, and "keeping up with joneses". Our bodies are not able to differentiate between a saber tooth tiger or a 14 hour work day. Stress is stress, and chronic stress keeps this fear response triggered at all times causing all sorts of mental and physical issues. By teaching our body what “calm” feels like we are able to turn of this auto response and allow it trigger appropriately when we actually need it. Having the ability to respond to life instead of react to life is game changing. Body Psychotherapy and Somatic TechniquesIn keeping with the concept that our bodies have cellular memory, body psychotherapy provides an opportunity to allow your body to speak it’s wisdom. You are led into a relaxed, meditative state and through intuition and creative visualization, the body shares what it needs to heal, often symbolically. Together, tapping into your mind/body connection, we can facilitate deep and transformative healing.
This body-centered therapy helps clients foster a new relationship with their physical bodies and their internal biological processes. Learning the cues and messages our bodies' vessels are trying to convey helps reduce & address the discomfort and dis-ease we often experience. Somatic techniques are simple movements, gestures, and exercises that target emotional release, nervous system regulation, trapped energy discharge, and brain/body balance. These techniques are especially helpful for healing trauma, anxiety, grief and other intense experiences that we often find too difficult to give voice to. Our body becomes our voice and these are tools of expressing and releasing pain & discomfort. Past Life Regression and Soul Wisdom IntegrationEnergy cannot be created or destroyed, it simply transforms. As we are energetic beings it stands to reason that the energy pattern that makes us who we are simply keeps manifesting into a new physical body when we transition. Based on this belief, past life regression allows us to mentally “travel” to the time and place where healing is needed. This is a very effective approach in treating fears, and phobias. It can clear karmic contracts we have with others, relieve chronic or unexplained physical pain, and heal “old” trauma. It also allows us to see into lifetimes when we were living our purpose, bringing those gifts forward into this lifetime for a more meaningful experience of present day life. It is also very beneficial in “gathering our lost pieces”. Through repeated lifetimes our soul energy can become fragmented. As we travel, we bring forward healthy attributes and integrate them into our present day experience. This can lead to a sense of wholeness and inner peace.
Experiential TherapyOur thoughts influence our experience. We often get caught in the loop of overthinking and our wheels just keep spinning the same information ( usually unproductive and unhealthy). With experiential therapy we take our inner experience (subconscious) and bring it outside of ourselves to work with it ( conscious). This may be through art, role playing, mirror work, writing or guided emotional release. This allows for clarity, objectivity, and insight which is necessary to create change in thoughts, which leads to change in behaviour.
Evidence-Based Modalities
Building on the latest research in mental health, knowing how to apply and customize these approaches can help equip clients with more tools for their tool boxes. This ensures they can apply their learning between sessions as well.
(These are examples, not an exhaustive list): Internal Family Systems Therapy - This approach helps us explore the inner working relationships of all the parts of you that guide your daily life. These parts are often arrested in a development stage or have grown from a psychological, emotional or physical wound and have learned to adapt. Most are immature attempts at creating safety or protecting us from experiencing pain, and almost always create issues in our lives when we have outgrown them and need more adult responses from ourselves. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) - This is the process of understanding the interplay of thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. When we see the cascade effect of a negative thought that leads to an uncomfortable feeling, creating a defensive behavior, we can use that same system in any order to create a new, more positive and intentional experience. This can be especially helpful with addressing anxiety and overthinking/ruminating. Solution-Focused Therapy - In life, we can view things as stop signs or speed bumps, and that will determine if we stay stuck or move forward. Solution-Focused Therapy is a way of problem solving forward and dismantling the beliefs that led you to be stuck in the first place. Polyvagal Therapy - This therapy shines a light on our biological wiring for safety and connection, and all of the ways this sense of internal/external safety is impaired. Using working knowledge of neuroscience helps us create awareness and interventions that can, with intention, downregulate a fight, flight, or freeze response. When our nervous system is supported to come back to a neutral state, that is where our best healing happens. |
